Change of Name
Thanks to those people who have missed my letters. It is good to know someone notices when I am not there! A lot has happened in the last few months but the team is still together and business goes on – just with a new name – ‘Durno Recruitment Limited.’ We thought that what it lacks in originality it makes up for in clarity?

But more importantly to you, what is the market doing? In the CA world, the recession gave us more candidates to choose from but perversely, we didn’t need so many. Our CA clients reported that their clients were suffering so in turn the demand for accounting services fell away. Some work couldn’t be put off forever and with an increase in confidence and the catch up of a backlog there is more demand again. And yes, a shortage of experienced BAS people again. We seem to grow them to a certain level of competence and then lose them to industry. Perhaps we need a workshop, titled, ‘Retention of BAS People?’
In the commercial sector there is much more of a choice of candidates, with the biggest challenge to find those with the right personality for each environment. Someone who thrives on getting details perfect will love a costing role in a complex business with multiple products or services, whereas an accountant supporting a sales team needs to be more customer-focused. The wrong person in the wrong role can be an expensive, unhappy mistake. It is easiest to take someone from a similar background although this can result in missing out on a gem –-someone who is looking for you and would exceed your expectations.
